What is Creative and Experiential Art Practice?
Rather than being about making “good” art or learning techniques, creative and experiential art practice is about using the process of creating - with paint, clay, found objects, movement, sound, collage etc. - to explore your inner world.
It can be:

Sensory and embodied - engaging touch, movement, and intuition

Process-focused - the journey matters more than the outcome

Emotionally expressive - allowing feelings to surface through colour, shape, and gesture

Non-verbal - ideal for those who struggle to articulate their experience in words
It’s NOT:

A formal art class
-
About artistic skill or aesthetics

A diagnostic or clinical tool
-
A passive experience - as it invites active participation and reflection
This is an approach that honours each person’s unique way of expressing, discovering, and healing.
What is Nature Therapy in This Context?
Nature therapy here means more than just being outdoors. It is about being with nature as a co-facilitator of healing; attuning to the natural world as part of the therapeutic process; and discovering how our own nature can communicate with us, responding to our needs and questions in life.
It may include:

Making art with natural materials (leaves, bark, clay)

Sitting quietly with trees, wind, or birdsong

Using nature metaphors to explore inner states

Walking, foraging, or creating rituals in outdoor spaces
Using such techniques, Nature becomes a mirror, a companion, and a grounding force - helping people reconnect with their bodies, emotions, and sense of purpose.


In old alchemy, ordinary materials were transformed into something luminous. In creative arts therapy, the same principle applies — but the material is our lived experience. When we explore our feelings through colour, texture, movement, and imagination, something inside us can change. What feels heavy can become lighter; what feels tangled can find form. Alchemy is transformation, and art therapy offers a gentle pathway toward that change.
